Got Hacked? The FTC Can Now Sue You

The U.S. Federal Court ruled last week the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) can now take action against organizations that employ poor IT security practices.  This places more responsibility on you the ‘business owner’.  Do you ‘the business owner’ have an Intrusion Protection Solution (IPS) (example: firewall), Intrusion Detection Solution (IDS – trace the hack and what was touched), network passwords updated regularly, hard drives encrypted, email encryption, regular employee trainings helping the staff to identify Phishing emails, virus protection and so on in place?  It’s not enough to just install a firewall, set a local password and walk away thinking you are safe.
